2nd Research Fair – FACULTY OF GEOGRAPHY AND HISTORY – UNIVERSITY OF SEVILLE

The STEP project research group participated in the 2nd Research Fair of the Faculty of Geography and History at the University of Seville.

The fair took place on April 28, 2026, in the faculty’s courtyards. The objective of this event was to share the work carried out by the different research groups belonging to the faculty, within the framework of knowledge transfer and the dissemination of results from each ongoing project.

The fair featured a poster exhibition format, displaying the main information of each project, and also included presentation and transfer activities with the attendees. Dr. Carolina del Valle Ramos, Dr. María José Prados Velasco, and Daniel Ramos Trávez represented the STEP project at the fair.

The exhibition was attended by students from the faculty, with a special invitation extended to final-year students enrolled in the Double Degree in Geography and History. The STEP project was presented along with the results obtained in each line of research, emphasizing how scientific activity has real-world implications for society.

Overall, the project’s progress was showcased in terms of scientific output—including the publication of results, attendance at conferences and academic events—as well as the knowledge transfer activities developed as part of the project’s objectives.

The purpose of presenting the project’s progress was to guide students toward research as a potential career path. This action contributes to promoting the academic-scientific field as a space for socio-occupational connection.

Furthermore, a presentation was held in this space to showcase the results of the research currently being conducted within the framework of the project. These results correspond to the inclusion of public participation in landscape management within the context of the energy transition. Several research questions were presented regarding the perception of users or visitors in territories where renewable-based projects have been deployed. Additionally, the results of research based on the content analysis of news about the energy transition on digital platforms in Spain were presented, aiming to examine its potential impact on public opinion.

Attendees were asked to observe a photograph of a landscape featuring several characteristic elements of the Campiña and Sierra Sur regions of Seville. The image depicted the operation of a wind-power generation project constructed in the municipality of La Puebla de Cazalla, in the province of Seville.
The public was requested to observe the image before participating in a perception survey. The survey consisted of several questions based on landscape perception analysis methodologies and journalistic content analysis to evaluate social perception.

The survey results were presented during the activity. Following this presentation, a space for dialogue was opened with the attendees to interpret the results, representing an exercise in knowledge construction based on participatory action-research methodology and citizen science.
Beyond the results obtained and the reflections that took place during the activity, the primary purpose was to demonstrate to the participants how to apply methodologies to initiate research processes.
