The Landscape Charter of the Granada Geopark: Toward a Participatory Territorial Governance of the Geopark

The Landscape Charter of the Granada Geopark is developed within the scope of the Granada UNESCO Global Geopark, a territory characterized by landscapes of high identity and productive value. It is an instrument for social consensus aimed at the shared management of this area. Through an extensive participatory process spanning two years—and based on cooperation between public administrations, private entities, and citizens—the Charter has first identified transformation dynamics and key issues. Consequently, a set of Landscape Quality Objectives has been established, which includes the revitalization of urban and rural habitats, the harmonization of land uses, adaptation to climate change, the valorization of the landscape as an economic resource, and education in landscape values. Finally, concrete, shared, and agreed-upon response actions have been proposed, assigned to each stakeholder, and scheduled. These actions are included in the Charter’s first Action Plan.
